Impulse dosing valve for industrial, technical lubricants
Volumetric lubricant dosing – contactless, reproducible, fast. Dose in a reliable process, using the SOMA impulse dosing valve (IDV)'s patented non-contact dosing method for lubricants, for example for grease dosing.

The patented dosing valve for industrial lubricants is the result of several years of experience in developing and producing components in the field of volumetric lubricant dosing.
The impulse dosing valve is in its element wherever lubricant quantities have to be dosed with positional accuracy and in a precise volume.
It is controlled by a monostable, quick-acting pneumatic valve and achieves up to 20 dot-shaped doses per second. Different dosing volumes are therefore possible with a corresponding number of controls with only one IDV without significant loss of time.
Advantages of impulse dosing valve
- Patented non-contact dosing method for lubricants
- Can be used in automated handling systems thanks to compact design and positional independence
- High process and repeat accuracy thanks to the volume principle
- Low medium upstream pressure to avoid lubricant segregation
- High dosing speed up to 20 Hz. Complete monitoring in combination with SOMA DIS
Areas of application
Whenever it is difficult to reach the area to be lubricated for geometric reasons, the SOMA IDV impulse dosing valve proves its benefits. Contactless lubricant dosing eliminates the need for additional movements in the system. The high speed also enables a large volume discharge as well as a bead-like application. In combination with the DIS dosing inspection system from SOMA, IDV allows complete process reliability.

SOMA dosing valves – the operating principle of the IDV
The SOMA impulse dosing valve, from our dosing technology segment, is designed in line with a modular principle and made entirely of stainless steel.

The medium to be dosed is fed to the IDV via the valve connection block with a static pressure of 0.5 to 12 bar, where a non-return valve in the valve's dosing chamber prevents an uncontrolled release. Triggered by a quick action valve, the dosing piston in the valve cartridge is abruptly pressurised and plunges without clearance into the dosing chamber at high speed. The tensioned column of lubricant is driven towards the dosing nozzle and opens the non-return valve.
The great force of the impulsive compression stroke causes the lubricant to emerge from the nozzle with a high kinetic energy and correspondingly high flow velocity. The abrupt stop of the dosing piston at the configurable end stop causes it to break off at a specified point, achieving a precisely targeted lubricant application. The dosing volume can be set manually using the rotary valve cylinder, which restricts the stroke of the dosing piston.
Combination of accessories with the modular principle
The modular principle allows the best possible adaptation to the specific lubricant properties and dosing specifications by combining different individual component dimensions with optional accessories.
