RDS – Rotary Dosing System

Intelligent greasing of rotationally symmetrical products using SOMA RDS: configurable, volumetric and contactless.

Rotationally symmetrical components form the key elements of many products and are therefore used in virtually all areas of industry. Wear produced by friction can be seen in many rotationally symmetrical applications and can be significantly reduced by using a defined volume of appropriate lubricant in a specific location.

The SOMA RDS rotary dosing system offers great flexibility in the fully automatic dosing of lubricant for rotationally symmetrical products – configurable, volumetric and contactless.

Using the proven SOMA IDV impulse dosing valve, the SOMA rotary dosing system (RDS) in conjunction with a dosing nozzle driven by a hollow shaft stepping motor enables precise angular and contactless dosing of adjustable and constant lubricant volumes.

Configuration using RDS-control

RDS-Control is configuration software developed especially for the requirements of a rotary dosing system. It can be used to quickly design dosing sequences and load them into the dosing control unit. These sequences can then be selected and launched using a selector switch. This can also be handled automatically by a higher-level control system.

Sixteen different dosing sequences can be created per dosing process to provide maximum flexibility. These can be displayed to review RDS-Control. The operator can also specify for each dosing sequence whether dosing takes place during rotation using the "on the fly" method, or whether rotation stops before dosing for maximum precision – the "on hold" method.

The RDS controller

All components needed to operate the RDS, including the stepper motor controller, the voltage supply, the optional heating regulator and the digital interface to a higher-level system control unit, are organised in a compact, industry-compliant housing. The RDS controller is therefore equally well suited to installation in process cells and as a desktop unit at semi-automated workstations.
